Only 52.26% of Chinese office workers eat breakfast every day, according to a report

Bianlifeng, a Chinese convenience store chain, released its latest research report on November 25th. The report aims to describe the breakfast consumption habits of office workers in China.

The report’s data come from consumers at 1600 convenience stores in more than 20 cities in China. According to the data of the report, office workers in China show a positive attitude towards breakfast. They know that eating breakfast is important for life, but many people can’t eat breakfast every day for various reasons.

Specifically, 82.5% of the respondents thought they should eat breakfast every day, 7.4% thought it was not necessary to eat breakfast, and 10.1% thought it did not matter whether they had breakfast or not.

In fact, only 52.26% of the respondents are able to eat breakfast every day, while 27.09% eat breakfast 5-6 times a week. 10.37% of people never eat breakfast.

The main reason for skipping breakfast is “no time”, which accounts for 82.71% of the people who skip breakfast. The second major reason that prevents people from eating breakfast is “loss of appetite in the morning”, which accounts for 35.68%. And 8.23% of office workers skip breakfast in order to lose weight.

In terms of price, 94.2% of the respondents kept the cost of breakfast within 10 yuan (about $1.53). The survey found that the proportion of white-collar workers eating breakfast at home is not high, only 28.65%.

According to statistics, Chinese consumers prefer Chinese breakfast. Among Bianlifeng products, steamed buns sell best every morning, followed by soybean milk, Youtiao, and tea eggs. Soybean milk + Youtiao + tea eggs are the most popular breakfast combination. Western-style breakfast is not dominant, but bread, milk, and coffee sell well.
